Independent Capital Management Honored for Charitable Work with San Diego Premier Lion’s Club

PressReleasePing - September 14, 2017 -SAN DIEGO, CA – July, 2017 – TERESITA L. PAJE, volunteer for San Diego Premier Lions Club in San Diego, received Honorable Mention for philanthropic excellence in the eleventh annual Invest in Others Awards. The Invest in Others Charitable Foundation established its awards program to recognize the charitable work of financial advisors and financial services firms in communities across the country and around the world. Financial advisors are nominated by their peers for actively giving back to non-profits to improve their communities and make a difference in the lives of others. Hundreds of inspirational nominations for the Invest in Others Awards were received this year and reviewed by a diverse panel of leaders in the financial services industry. Those earning Honorable Mention were selected based on their leadership, dedication, contribution, inspiration, and impact on a non-profit and the community it serves. ICM Financial Advisor Teresita L. Paje, the Charter President and President of San Diego Premier Lions Club, has fully embraced the “WE SERVE” motto. Since the club’s inception, nearly every year she has led multiple major medical, dental, and vision care trips to the Philippines. Over 12,000 indigent Filipino natives were provided free medical treatment, including thousands of dollars in medication, check-ups, eye-exams, eyeglasses, surgical procedures for cataracts, glaucoma, pterygium, and cyst removals. These trips also include feeding programs that provide meals to children from 6-12 years old. She has also used her financial expertise in supporting The Hope Collective, an international non-profit that is dedicated to empowering marginalized communities through entrepreneurship, and has helped provide income for Syrian and Iraqi refugees in the Middle East, Shan refugees in Thailand, and impoverished women in Uganda and Haiti. To help support these projects and get the community involved, Teresita has organized numerous fundraising events including annual tea parties, dinner dances, and special family events. Teresita is also actively involved with volunteering within the local San Diego community, including the San Diego Food Bank, and the STEAM program, which exposes children to science, technology, engineering, arts and math projects. As an advocate for financial literacy to women and school children, she was compelled to write a bill to Congress entitled “Adopting Financial Planning as a School Curriculum for 7th to 12th Grade.” The eleventh annual Invest in Others Awards Gala, a premier event attended by over 500 financial advisors and financial services executives, is September 28, 2017 in New York City. Awards will be presented in the following categories: Catalyst, Community Service, Global Community Impact, Volunteer of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, and Corporate Philanthropy.
